My art is my life. Because all my life I have had the feeling that I am searching for something I cannot even name. It’s a constant attempt to find meaning in chaos and banality, to make sense of the smaller and bigger things in life, to understand this exciting, beautiful but also strange world we live in. In recent years I have been greatly influenced by the insights of Joseph Campbell. Finally I at least understood why I have always been fascinated by symbols. The pentagram has been with me since my early youth.
I believe this search for meaning is inherent in all of us. The labyrinth as a symbol for this has been painted by people throughout history, on every continent and in every culture. It expresses our quest for a path, an answer or a solution.
Strictly speaking, my paintings only portray labyrinth-like structures. They never contain full labyrinths. There is nothing to be found. Thus, they are a reminder that the most important answers lie within ourselves.
